Community

Gaija is primarily the home of around 20 people, and the basis for the activities that we all like. The Community allows plenty of social interaction and space for many kinds of hobbies including the farming and caretaking the surrounding areas, swimming, sunbathing, playing with the children while taking care of animals, forest and garden.

Gaija community on average houses 15 adults and 5 children. Each has a private room or apartment in the house and shares the kitchens, living rooms, saunas and workrooms, which give many more possibilities than living in an ordinary house. The big space allows children and adults to live together in cooperative and creative ways, learning responsibility and respect for others needs from an early age.

Gaija is partly presenting the dream of having a village community-feeling freed from the modern stress-inducing society. At the same time the house is in constant change with almost daily visitors and thus more informed of news and arranging activities that are much more difficult to make in a city. Our hostel, organic shop and art courses are living proof of the endless possibilities that arise when people get a chance to unfold themselves, when a shared house demands only half the payment to live in, giving hours of time every day to work on hobbies, art or farming.

"It is somehow natural to live in a place where friends come and go and new acquaintances abound. I have always loved to travel to see people, now I can grow vegetables and take care of my child and I have no rush to nowhere. Life comes to me without invitations, and it is really amazing what happens. Sometimes the wish to withdraw from all arises and i can just be alone in my home nest. Here you can choose between social or private life at any time."
